Self Compassion

Compassion and love for others can only be possible, if you already embody the understanding of how worthy you are as a human being. Imago Dei is Latin for “image of God,”

When you understand and realize that we are formed in the image and likeness of God, then you will understand how much worthy and valuable you are.

Again the saying goes, you can’t give what you don’t have is related to love and compassion as well.People who care so much for others at the expense of themself, are susceptible to abuse and victimhood. This is not how God wants us to become. Love God above all else, and love your neighbor as yourself. How can you love others, when you don’t love yourself? Value and respect yourself first, and setting healthy boundaries are the parameters that you truly know and understand what love is. Sacrificial kind of love is so self sabotaging, and most of the time… that’s why people end up being abused… And the person abused, if not fully processed, can also become the abuser or will continue as a victim in the future.

It’s a great lesson to learn, to learn to love and appreciate yourself first. It all starts with yourself. And this is possible when you realize imago dei… that our identity is based on the fact that we are all created in the image and likeness of God. And so we must value and respect, ourself and other people as well.
